MARAVENN
PAINTER & MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST
WORKS BETWEEN LONDON AND LISBON
ABOUT
Mara Venn makes paintings that sit between landscape and recollection. Layers of oil, pigment, graphite and stone dust are built up, rubbed back and left open, allowing each surface to hold evidence of its making.
Her work begins with small observations—weather moving across glass, the colour of earth after rain, the interval between one place and another. These fragments become physical fields rather than literal scenes.
Venn works slowly across several canvases at once. The paintings are resolved through subtraction as much as addition, balancing tactile density with areas of deliberate quiet.
